Tips For Dealing With Your Acne Problems

Acne can have a minor form which is common during the teenage years and usually fades away with age and can be easily treated. A more severe form, called cystic acne, can be much more serious. Cystic acne can cause disfiguring dents in the skin which never go away. This article can help you to discover the type of acne you have and what treatment is advised.

To properly treat acne, look for a face wash or exfoliator with salicylic acid in it. Salicylic acid, while it may dry out your skin slightly, avoids oil from building up in your pores, which is the cause of acne. To reduce the incidence of dry skin, choose an oil-free moisturizer.

To help with acne, apply a dab of honey to your face, at least once a week as a mask. Honey is great for healing your blemishes and disinfecting skin, as it has antibacterial properties. Those with sensitive skin can also use honey, as it does not irritate most skin.

When trying to reduce acne breakouts, consider how much stress you are under. Stress has been shown to increase your cortisol levels, and too much cortisol will clog pores and lead to breakouts. If you can’t change too much about your stress levels, at least take time each day with meditation or a warm bath to calm down.

Lemon juice can aid in treating acne and and scarring. The juice contains citric acid which will dry out a pimple. Simply put a little on a cotton ball and place it directly on the pimple. Be sure to dilute the lemon juice if you have very sensitive skin. You can also use it to lighten any red marks caused by scarring.

Stay away from caffeine if you want to prevent your skin from breaking out. Most people are very sensitive to caffeine and it causes their skin to break out. Even if you do not drink coffee, chances are you drink pop or energy drinks. These drinks contain a lot of caffeine: check the labels of the drinks you buy and avoid anything containing caffeine.

A great way to help with acne problems is to use a different towel daily. The bacteria from one day of use can actually stay dormant on that towel and transfer back onto your skin the following day. You always want to start with a fresh clean towel after you wash your face.

You can prevent acne by making sure that your cell phone is clean and disinfected. We all put our phones directly to our cheeks when we talk and we don’t want all that extra bacteria transferring from our cell phones to our faces. This will cause instant pimples if not cleaned.

Benzoyl peroxide cream or gel applied directly onto the affected skin twice a day is a proven acne treatment. Benzoyl peroxide prevents dead skin cells blocking hair follicles and kills bacteria on the skin that can cause blocked follicles to become infected. Unfortunately, benzoyl peroxide makes skin more sensitive to ultra-violet light, so during treatment you should avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight.

You may be exposing yourself to a dirty phone or pillowcase if you notice recurring breakouts or blemishes on one side of your face only. Try wiping down your phone earpiece and mouthpiece with an antibacterial cleanser, and alternate ears. You may also change your pillowcase more frequently because oils and dirt pressed into the fabric may be the culprit.

Acne can cause severely disfiguring pits in the skin, as revealed previously. In the active phase the skin will have blemishes which can be large and have an angry red color. By following the steps outlined in this article, it can usually be treated and cleared up, although doctor’s assistance is recommended in more severe cases.
